This year, the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder will plant approximately 500 new trees as part of the Street Tree program.
The street tree program started 2002 out at Vivian Street and over the past 15 years has worked its way through the City all the way up to Hannans. Since 2002, there has been thousands of trees planted, for a variety of different reasons, although the primary reason was dust abatement.
Street trees have a cooling effect on the town as a whole, as well as providing a safe haven for native fauna and improving the aesthetics of residential areas.
If you are not in an area where the council is planting trees, you can take advantage of the City’s Street Tree policy, which gives residents two free plants for their verge. This year, we are giving away Callistemon Kings Park Specials, Pin Cushion Hakeas and a selection of low growing Eucalyptus trees.
